Shirley Watson Design
I am a local lino printmaker working from home and in Guildford at Ochre Print Studio. My work is all from original designs using images from my garden and the local area. I love colour and design and interpreting my ideas from drawings onto the lino. It is a long process from cutting the lino to the finished product, printing each colour by hand. Each and every piece is individual and has slight variations in colour and finish due to the processes used.
My prices range from £3 – £45

Alice and the Birds
I have always had a deep fascination with trees and plants. When I first started making medieval jewellery I didn’t really have much direction other than taking inspiration from old art, paintings, furniture and architecture.
This was until I made a medieval style oak necklace which enchanted customers. I wondered whether I could make more leaves, so I did my research and came across the Celtic Ogham Tree Calendar; I felt an immediate affinity for it!
Before the Romans invaded, prior to the Latin alphabet, we had the Ogham, represented by scored lines in different orientations.
It is said that every letter had a tree / plant associated with it, and eficacies specific to each one. The Celtic Tree Calendar is based on the 13 Lunar Cycles, with corresponding dates to each tree.
Although most of the history of the Ogham has been lost in time and romanticised in the scholarly book “The White Goddess” by Robert Graves (1948), the ancient folklore associated with each tree, and its benefits to the mortal world still exists to this day.
ABOUT MY PRODUCTS:
My jewellery celebrates this lost history, combining my love for trees and the forgotten magic that surrounds them. I use all natural materials including brass, copper, gemstones and Swarovski crystals. I do not use any plastic packaging and maintain environmentally conscious ethics and practices in all aspects of my company.
LEAVES:
Available in my Etsy Shop, you are able to purchase 13 different leaf types, in accordance with the Ogham calendar.
They come in;
Small pendants (inc free chain)
Large pendants (inc free chain)
Beaded necklaces
Earrings
Bracelets
Each item of jewellery comes with a beautiful Celtic Ogham information card which tells you all about the efficacies of the tree, the date on the calendar it coincides with and it’s Latin name. You can personalise the card for a small charge by adding a name, birthday, or message. Usually, people buy the leaf which corresponds to their own, or a loved ones birthday.
You can request any gemstone combination should you have a favourite in mind. This can be done by sending me a message upon checkout, or a direct message through Etsy with your enquiry. Please see the bead stock images for the full selection.
You can also purchase Ogham Tree Calendar prints through my Redbubble Shop.
I also sell bird charm beaded necklaces which mimic feather colouration through bead combinations. Again, these are fully customisable by request!
